What is PM Research
The nature of R&D activities in the field of project management frequently has the characteristics of applied research and experimental development but may also encompass basic research. These approaches may be set against different organizational environments (different types of profit and non-profit organizations), different application fields (production, product research and development, commercial services, government services, marketing, public relations, human resources development etc.) and industries (IT, banking, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, construction etc.).

R&D activities may consist of any of these approaches. Researchers may perform their work within industrial organizations, R&D organizations, universities or in other organizations.

The role of IPMA RMB
To create a “value space” for researchers and research organizations working in this field and to provide a framework for sharing and disseminating such knowledge. “Value space” means the place where different demands and needs can meet, and where international R&D project teams can exchange their ideas, initiate and start-up international R&D projects and so on.

More about the IPMA R&D strategy you can find in attached document "The White Paper On the R&D Activities"RD_White_V4.pdf

PHILOSOPHY OF THE IPMA RESEARCH MANAGEMENT BOARD
The R&D is the backbone of the every profession. We cannot imagine successful profession without proper R&D support which provide a new concepts, models, systems, products and tools (PM Products).

Thanks Brane for updating the RMB portfolio. It's looking more professional and virtual every day. I will next add links to the various members and activities. Pieter, Rajat, Miles, Martina, what else needs to be included? Other members, what do you need to know about what RMB is doing? Great photo!

David, do you have any suggestion how IPMA should motivate that kind research?
Comment by David Shannon on May 6, 2008 at 10:49am
I remember when a group of senior Indonesian project directors I was leading on a study tour of UK identified that a key ingredient in the success of a major government project was that the project manager's previous secretary had relocated to the cabinet office in Downing Street.

I conclude that we need more research by experienced people using approaches that encourage the minimum of preconception to determine the crucial factors that have related to effectiveness.
