Comment by Dr. Paul D. Giammalvo on August 28, 2011 at 3:26am Dear IPMA Colleagues,
To our Islamic colleagues and friends, Selamat Idul Fitri, Eid Saaed dan Eid Mubarak,
For those of you who are academics or cutting edge practitioners who publish or would like to publish your papers, here is something really important about a major change in IP Policy by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEi). What this means is you no longer have to sign over your IP rights in order to have your papers published by AACEi or to make a presentation at an AACEi event.
“On August Friday, 26, 2011, the US based Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International, announced a major shift in the IP policy of most US based, global professional organizations by announcing that effective immediately, instead of contributors having to sign over their intellectual property to the organization, including the rights to any derivative works, AACE has changed the policy so that now, contributors do NOT have to give up their rights of ownership or the rights to any derivative works, but are merely granting an extensive license to AACE to use the author/contributors IP while leaving ownership with the contributor.
This policy is consistent with the intent of Creative Commons licensinghttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ and represents a major departure from the policy of most other US based professional organizations. In making this change, it is anticipated that AACE will attract both academics and practitioners doing cutting edge research and innovative implementations and has been designed especially to appeal to the Generation X and Generation Y practitioners, who are fast becoming today’s leaders.
To see the complete wording of this innovative and progressive IP agreement, point your browser here http://www.aacei.org/am/guidelines/welcome.shtml and download the “Publications and Speaker Agreement”.
Compare this against the IP policies of YOUR current professional organization and see which organization you would rather share your knowledge and experience with.
BR,
Dr. Paul D. Giammalvo, CDT, CCE, MScPM, MRICS

Comment by Simon Harris on March 31, 2011 at 12:03pm Hey Stacy
What is wrong with EVM that you disdain it !? (or do you mean i'll informed application of the letters to something that isn't actually true to the spirit?)
Done right EVM forces us to know how to uniquivically assess 'doneness' (P2 appendix A entry 17 helps greatly - I assume you all know which product description that is), forces us to actually make the assessment, gives true insight into bang for the buck and forecasts!
Of course done poorly its just a more complicated-science-scary-bullshit-generator - but that is our fault as writers, educators, practitioners not the tool's
best regards - Simon

Comment by Stacy Goff on March 8, 2011 at 9:37am Rajat and Marco,
I will see what I can do to put the two of you together with Vladimir. My introduction to him and his work was through Ed Fern, and he was one of the "industry experts" that I interviewed for chapter 9 of the book, Project Management Circa 2025. My chapter, Visions of the PM Software Industry, looked ahead at how PM Software would progress over the next 20 (or so years).
Vladimir's EVM is a re-thinking, rather than a tool; my mention of Spider Project is a separate topic, related to the above. An, Marco, perhaps we are on the same wavelength, because I disdain use of EVM in organizations:
Rajat, I do not have the presentation(s), but I suspect Vladimir can get them to you.
